The signature is attributable to the Italian painter Vittorio Bussolino (Turin, 1853–1922). The painter depicts a splendid plain, probably in Northern Italy, on a sunny day. In the left foreground, a flock grazes peacefully under the watchful eye of a shepherd sitting in the shade of a large tree. The green hues of the lush nature dominate the painting and blend harmoniously with a blue sky animated by large white clouds. This work perfectly reflects the artistic quality achieved by many 19th-century Italian Verist painters, whose favorite themes were landscapes.
