The glass features a very distinctive “Papillon” decor: transparent green glass with yellow-silver inclusions and iridescence. This important vase is the result of the collaboration between Moritz Hacker (Budapest 1849–1932), a court jeweler, and Johann Loetz Witwe, a prominent manufacturer of art glass in Klostermühle, Bohemia, Austria-Hungary. The works of Johann Loetz are among the most significant examples of Art Nouveau. The vase bears the Moritz Hacker mark on the base.
